Newormics is the exclusive licensee of a microfluidic-based technology, vivoChip®, that allows high-throughput and high-content analysis of C. elegans for toxicology analysis and drug discovery. Newormics is seeking a Bioimaging Software Engineer to join our multidisciplinary team of biologists and engineers and become a contributor providing solutions for microscopy-based toxicology screening. This brand-new role will take part in scaling up our screening services via the development of software that assists not only our scientists but also clients worldwide in performing experiments, analyzing image-based data, and creating reports summarizing the results with statistical analysis of high-throughput screens. The Bioimaging Software Engineer will be involved with all steps of the data pipeline, from experimental setup using automated liquid handling systems to microscope image acquisition to data processing/analysis to storage and organization within a searchable database. These extensive, multi-terabyte microscopy datasets are key to the toxicology services we provide; and the software to acquire, manage, and analyze these data must be robust and powerful yet user-friendly and intuitive to biology teams performing toxicology screens. Working closely with these end users will be essential in developing this software system. As such, strong communication skills are critically essential for this role.
As an early member of the company, you will play an important role in growing the company, guiding and continually shaping the trajectory of our software solutions for high-throughput screening. As the company expands, you will have the opportunity to build your team and become one of the technical leaders of the company. - Bachelor’s degree in computer science or engineering, biomedical engineering, or electrical engineering
- 3-5+ years of experience
- With a postgraduate degree, fewer years of experience will be considered
- Proficiency in Python, including image processing packages (OpenCV, Pillow, etc.) and I/O packages (pySerial, etc.)
- Experience working with microscopes and image-based studies preferred
- Experience in C++
- Experience in interfacing with peripheral scientific equipment (e.g., microscopes, stages, light sources, cameras) via software integrations
- Experience building and maintaining relational databases
- Experience in computer vision, image processing, and 3D data manipulation
- Experience developing GUIs (PyQt)
- Must demonstrate strong attention to detail and careful execution of tasks to accomplish the goals in collaboration with other team members
